TRAINER ‘S TRAINING IN PLAY THERAPY

The rapid development of play therapy encounters, to some extent, the problem of a shortage of appropriately trained trainers. Play Therapy Greece , together with PTI, offers free training for PTI members with appropriate experience to become certified trainers and Course Directors.

They will then have the opportunity to deliver the certified and highly successful training programs in Athens and other parts of Greece. The groups usually have 8 to 24 participants. There are times when a program requires a Course Director and an Assistant Course Director.

Programs that currently require trainers are:

• Introduction to Play Therapy
• Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills
• Diploma in Play Therapy

Course Directors should be able to:

• Deliver the content of a program as defined in the “Course Directors’ manual” and, as accredited trainers, be able to use a variety of teaching and learning methods. This includes leading group exercises and delivering PowerPoint presentations with practical and theoretical content.
• Organize and support other specialized facilitators. Be able to stand on their own, as specialized facilitators.
• Provide emotional support to students when required during an experiential exercise.
• Support students with their written assignments. To monitor and record the progress of course participants. To answer questions from course participants. To manage training equipment and materials and their inventory.
• Course Directors need to sign a contract clearly outlining their responsibilities to maintain the high-quality level of Play Therapy Greece programs and to protect the intellectual property rights of those programs. Play Therapy Greece will attempt to offer trainers, as much as possible, the number of training days each would like to complete per year.
• The program is flexible and includes, among other things, participant observation (in both directions, for instructor and students) and a series of one- or two-day informational sessions and internships. The training is free of charge, but participants must pay their own travel and accommodation expenses.
• Participants must be previously trained as PTI Certified Supervisors and ideally have completed 450 hours of internship with children.
